4.  I couldn't figure out how to actually download the file. Do you have specific instructions on that?
      Instructions on downloading a file.

    a) For regular downloads with Windows/PC machines follow these instructions:
    • Click on the download link given in your email. If the link is not highlighted or active, copy the entire link into your web-browser address bar and go to the link (hit enter).
    • Click on the 'Save' button and choose where you would like to save the product. We recommend saving the file to your desktop for easier access.
    • After choosing the location on the 'Save As' screen, click 'Save' and your download will begin. Once the transfer is complete you can find the file easily by closing all your windows.
    • Once you've downloaded your product, you're ready to use it on your computer. To use the product, go to the location your product was downloaded to. Double clicking on the file will usually launch your media player, installation wizard, ZIP/compression expander or viewer application to play/view the product you purchased.

    b) If you use Internet Explorer 5.5, please follow these instructions:
    • Right click on the download link given above and choose the option 'Save Target As'. If the link is not highlighted or active, copy the entire link into your web-browser address bar and go to the link (hit enter).
    • Choose a location on your machine where you want the product to download. We recommend saving the file to your desktop for easier access.
    • Once a location on your computer is selected, begin your download by clicking 'Save As'.
    • Once you've downloaded your product, you're ready to use it on your computer. To use the product, go to the location your product was downloaded to. Double clicking on the file will usually launch your media player, installation wizard, ZIP/compression expander or viewer application to play/view the product you purchased.

    c) For MacOS users, you will need to know this stuff:
    • When you click on a link in a browser you can usually have at least two options for how to use the link. This is true on every link in every system, using every browser... the only difficult part is that Mac's don't utilize the interface the same way as a PC, which makes it less than inuitive to appropriate links on the internet via a Mac, though I greatly prefer a Mac for most other things... The only significant difference between the Windows and Macintosh versions in an internet link use involves the right-mouse button. Obviously, the Macintosh has only one button rather than two like standard Windows. Unfortunately, using the right-mouse button has become a standard interface tool and is used throughout most applications, even ones that live in both PC and Mac worlds. Therefore, on a Mac, whenever you are asked to 'right-click,' you will need click the mouse button while holding down the Command key (the key with the apple or cloverleaf). References to 'left-mouse button' are just the regular mouse button on a Mac.
    • So in ouer case of downloading files you need to "right-click" (or in your case , COMMAND+MOUSE Click) the links in your download email to allow you to download the files they refer to for saving, rather than trying to have your browser display them in its window. (which ends up looking like your browser is barfing)

5.  What can I expect from the software I download? Is it a full version or demo version of the software, and what does that mean?
Software downloaded via DigitalQueue.com will always be demo or trial versions of software (unless specifically noted otherwise). Most demo versions do not have all the features of the full version. The demo versions are made available for the purpose of giving the user a good idea of what the program is like. The full version of the software has many more features and options.

Your download is a file(s) contained inside of an archive called a .ZIP file, and not an .EXE file.

You must have an unzipping utility to unzip this file. Your computer may already have this utility, and you can also download a freecopy of unzipping utilities for various OSes.

If your computer already knows how to handle ZIP files and you are on a revision of Windows, follow these steps:

    a) Use My Computer, Find, or Windows Explorer to get to the icon for the .ZIP file you wish to uncompress, and then drag the file into the WinZip toolbar and browse to the desired file.

    b) To decompress the file, click the "Extract" button in WinZip's toolbar, select a destination, and then click Extract again. Now the extracted files will reside in the folder you chose, and these will be uncompressed.
If your computer is not Windows or it doesn't contain an unzip utility already, follow these instructions:

The download you have acquired will be in a ZIP file format. This means the file will have a .zip extension to its filename. The ZIP file format is a way of compressing and archiving file(s) into a compact single file for ease of use for downloading and saving files space. Once you have successfully downloaded the ZIP file to your local computer, you can access the contents of the download by extracting the files from your ZIP archive.

The most recent versions of both Windows and MacOS come with built-in software that automatically allows you access to files housed within ZIP archives. On the recent versions of both Windows and MacOs you can access these files by double clicking the downloaded ZIP file archive, which will expose the files contained within the archive.

If you are on older versions of Macintosh or Windows (or MS DOS) computers, you may need to use a ZIP archive reader to access the files. There are free versions of ZIP archive extractors available for each of these OSes-
Follow the instructions of your local computer ZIP extraction utility, or the utility you installed to handle ZIP extraction for details on using and extracting the files contained in the ZIP archives.

Once you have extracted the contents of the ZIP archive, you will see your downloaded files/demos/products.

7.  The file I just downloaded was a .EXE file. How do I find and extract the demo download from this file?
Your demonstration software was downloaded as an executable file (.EXE). An executable file (.EXE). is a compressed file that is self extracting, meaning that it will decompress itself on our computer automatically when you tell it to do this in a correct manner.

To decompress this type of file, you must run the .EXE file just as you would any other program. To find this file now that you have already downloaded it, click your "Start" button, then click run, and browse to the file. Your file should be named ( cakesonar2Demo.exe). When you find it, just double click the file icon and it will self extract.

Your problem may have been that you were only clicking the file once. You must double click it. Once you double click it, it will extract and the demo program in a folder under the current directory which the .EXE is located. Your PC may also automatically create an icon for this demo software on your desktop so you can find it quickly from now on when you want to run the program.

If you still can't find your downloaded demo file on your computer, it is relatively easy to locate this material. If you are using a Windows 95/98/Me operating system, just follow these easy steps to find your download:

    a) Click the "Start" button.

    b) Point your curser arrow to "Find", and then click "files or folders" from the menu that appears.

    c) A little window will appear labeled "Find: All Files.

    d) If you know about when you downloaded your demo, click the "Date" tab and select "Find All Files" AND select the date option that most narrows down your search. If you just downloaded in the last couple of days, select the "during the previous X number of day(s)" option.

    e) Click the "Name & Location" tab on the "Find: All Files window.

    f) Enter the file name ( eg. cakesonar2Demo.exe ) into the box.

    g) Select (C:) in the "Look In" box.

    h) In the "Containing Text" box, enter "Sonar" or "Cakesonar". Or just leave this box blank.

    i) Now click the "Find Now" button.

    j) Wait until the magnifying glass icon stops moving around in a circle.

    k) Your original download probably put your files into a temporary internet file. In your find results you will see a little icon in the "name" column that looks like a folder with a C clamp on it. This file will read "application" in the "type" column. In the "in folder" column it will say C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\content.*.

    l) Double click the name of this file in the "name" column. A message will appear that says, "Select OK to extract". Selecting OK will create a folder which will contain the demo software. Click OK.

    m) Now your software is unzipped and in a folder. You can put this folder anywhere you want on your PC. If you lose the folder, just follow these steps: Click Start > point to Find > click "folders and files" > enter the word - Sonar in the "Name" box, and enter [C:] in the "Look In" box click the "Find Now" button, and you have found your demo software.

    n) Click the folder and the folder contents will appear. Your PC may also automatically create an icon for this demo software on your desktop so you can find it quickly from now on to run the program.

8.  I tried installing the demo software, but the install seemed to fail. What do I do now?
Installing the demo software is fairly simple. For most situations, simply follow the instructions sent to you in the original email with the download link. Should you have additional problems or questions regarding installing software (whether it be the demo software you download here, or other software packages in general) you can click HERE for our Install Help information page.

9.  I followed your installation instructions listed above, but I still received an error message stating, "Could not initialize installation (CRC)". What do I do now?
Usually, when you receive an error message stating, "Could not initialize installation (CRC)" , this error message simply means the user has tried to install or run a file that didn't finish downloading or that didn't download correctly. This error message does *not* mean that the file was corrupt before you even tried downloading! The demonstration version software file on our server is fine. Instead, the error message indicates that something happened in the download process itself. The solution to remedy this situation is to download the file again. Refer to the original download email you were sent, and follow the instructions in that email to repeat the download process. If you continue to have trouble with this issue, and you are using a modem as your internet connectivity device, see "Tips for optimizing my Windows internet connection" in the FAQ entry below.

10.  How can I optimize my computer for downloads? Occasionally, my computer fails during a download, is ineffective in completing it, or is excessively slow. What can I do?
Tips for optimizing my Windows internet connection. One of the biggest reasons people use the Internet is to download software. However, sometimes trying to download can also often turn out to be troublesome! Below are two tips that will help speed up your download time and serve to insure that your file downloads correctly, and to prevent corrupted downloads:

    a) In many cases, speeding up your downloads will also often help:

When on-line, the more operations you attempt to execute with your connection, the slower each operation will be.

For example, if you are attempting to download a particular file while you check your e-mail, send instant messages, and surf the web; you will find the download will slow down significantly and may become corrupted. If speed and multi-tasking is an imperative need, try lightening the load on your internet connection by only using applications that do not use your internet connection during the time that you are downloading.

Also, it is a good idea to speed up your computer performance by empting your recycle bin (by right clicking on the bin icon on your desktop), and removing unused programs (shelfware) from your computer. Do this by selecting "Add/Remove Programs" from the Windows control panel. Also clean up your "Cookie" folder and your "Temporary Internet Files" folders; these can get really full and slow down your computer performance significantly. To find these folders, right click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, click explore, click C:, and click Windows. Or if you are using Internet Explorer to download, select Tools - Internet Options and select Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files. Then, click Settings under Temporary Internet Files and ensure that at least 190 MB of space are allotted for the amount of disk space to use.

    b) For Windows users with dialup modem connections only- if you have received a "Could not initialize installation (CRC)" message, this almost always indicates that the file that didn't finish downloading or that it didn't download correctly. If this error message constantly reoccurs after trying to download it again a couple of times, and you are using a dialup modem as your connection device, then try decreasing the data transmission speed before downloading. Here's how to do it in Windows:

Step One: Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and open Modems.

Step Two: Click Properties and select the Connection tab.

Step Three: Click Port Settings and bring the Receive Buffer slider down a notch. Click "OK", and try your download again.

Once your file has been successfully received, if you so desire, you can go back and increase the buffer settings back to where they were.

11.  Why do I have to enter my email address to get a download?
There are four primary reasons we ask for your email address.

    a) First, we use the email to send you the URL for your specific product download. This way, you have a record of it, in case you forgot or had any problems downloading. You can return to your email to re-download the product if there were any problems.

    b) Second, we use the email to send you additional information about using this particular download, including instructions on the specific demo or product you downloaded. You can refer to these during the download, installation or operation of the software you downloaded.

    c) Third, we use the email to verify that downloads only go to people who specifically request them. This cuts down on people and internet automated tools from abusing or overusing our site, and lowering the performance of downloads for our legitimate users.

    d) Forth, we use email to communicate specific software product information to people who use our free service. We offer this download service to you for free. In exchange we ask for the opportunity to contact you (only with relevant information) about software or related products. Don't worry we will never resell or allow your email to be given away to any other companies. We don't appreciate tons of junk mail, and we assume you don't either- we respect your online privacy. You will only hear from us on relevant, appropriate topics.

12.  What is the internet?
